Here is some advice for borrowing and renewing during vacation period: https://libguides.durham.ac.uk/borrowfromus/vacations

If you believe you have good reason not to pay your library charges (for example, medical reasons or extenuating personal circumstances) you can complete our online Library Charges Enquiry Form and the Library might consider waiving your accrued fines.  (Please note, you can only submit this form once the items in question have been returned, checked in and the charges have been added to your library account.)

While you do not need to disclose precise medical details, a fit note from your GP or a letter from your department or college confirming the dates in question will support your enquiry and you can attach up to three supporting documents.

If you are unable to complete the Library Charges Enquiry Form online, you can ask for a paper copy at the Help and Information Desk inside the Bill Bryson Library, or contact us via  our Virtual Enquiry Desk.
