Yes. An author can request an opt out from the policy on an article-by-article basis, where a publisher explicitly refuses to publish the article without an opt-out, or in some other circumstances.
Please contact us with the details of your article, and the reason for the opt-out from the policy.
All requests for an opt-out will be reviewed by the Open Research Team, who will then pass these on for approval by an author's Faculty Deputy Executive Dean (Research). Please allow up to 10 working days for an opt-out to be confirmed (but we will endeavour to confirm as soon as possible).
Requests for opt-outs, and the reasons for requesting them, will also be shared with other N8 partner institutions, detailing the article title/DOI, journal, publisher and reason for the opt-out.
